China went first class with the planning and construction of the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing. With a seating capacity of 37,000 people and over 6 square miles of water, this facility will surely attract attention. Construction began in 2005 and was completed by mid-2007, just in time for the August 8, 2007 "Good Luck Beijing" kickoff event.
The Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park will host the Rowing, Canoe/Kayak Flat-water, Canoe/Kayak Slalom, and Marathon Swimming events for the 29th Olympiad. At the conclusion the the 2008 Olympics the park will be converted into a swimming and recreation resort.
