Construction on the fully man-made river began in 2005 and was finished in the summer of 2007. Rapid size and water flow can be fully adjusted to meet the conditions of the various canoe/kayak, rowing, and swimming events that will take place during the 2008 Olympics. The Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park will be converted to a water park and resort for the Beijing residents at the conclusion of the 29th Olympiad.
