The Men's Eight with Coxswain, (8+), is the largest crew in the Olympics Rowing events. There are actually nine people in the sweep-oar boat as can be seen in the photo. The coxswain is in charge of steering and keeping the crew in synch with each other. Pictured here in n the (8+) event, the coxswain sits in stern (rear) and faces the crew. This location and orientation varies with the different events.
