Olympic Canoe/Kayak boasts some of the most exciting and fast-paced events in all of the Summer Games. It is, therefore, surprising that canoe/kayak is routinely overlooked by Olympic enthusiasts and spectators alike. As this image gallery will show, canoe/kayak is not only exciting and fast-paced but it requires a unique blend of agility, strength, and cardio-vascular endurance that is arguably unrivaled amongst its Olympic sport counterparts.
Olympic Canoe/Kayak consists of 16 different events that fall under 2 main categories of Flatwater or Slalom Canoe/Kayak. The events are also specific to the type of boat the competitors paddle, canoe or kayak, and how many people will be in each boat, 1, 2, or 4.
This year's canoe/kayak athletes will compete at the Shunyi Olympic Canoe-Rowing Center in Beijing, China for the 29th Olympiad. Enjoy these pictures as you are introduced to the world of Olympic Flatwater Canoe/Kayak.
