Happy 4th of July!

Friday July 4, 2008

The majority of the population is spending time with family, at the beach, picnicking, and yes even paddling on this 3 day weekend. Often in America it is easy to lose site of the reason for our holidays, even though we are great at the celebration part of them. On this July 4th, 2008, let us not forget the true reason for the day; the sacrifice by our nations founders to give us this great land. Let us also remember those men and women who are serving our great nation right now.

Even something as common and dear to us as paddling canoes and kayaks is a liberty that much of the world is not able to enjoy. The next time you are out on the water, perhaps even today, spend a moment counting your blessings and maybe even say a prayer of thanks for what we have and for the sacrifices of the men and women who made it possible.

Have a Great and Happy 4th of July!

We're Halfway Through 2008! How are Your Paddling Goals Coming Along?

Tuesday July 1, 2008

Is this year flying by or what? It seems like just yesterday that it was strange to write 2008. Then we were dying for the spring run-off to start so we could hit the rivers. Well, summer is in full force, half the year is gone, and the 4th of July is upon us. Where did 2008 go?

Back in January, I challenged you to set some paddling goals for 2008. Well, it's time to reflect. How have you done with them? Are you on track? What do you need to do to achieve them?

It is the height of the paddling season, the peak of the year, and the best weather you're going to get. You have plenty of time to learn that new technique, prepare for an overnighter, paddle somewhere new, go to that paddling festival you've always missed, or replace those old grubby neoprene booties that you've had since last millennium.

It's not too late to make the most out of 2008!
