This is the time of year when kayaking gear ends up in a pile on the garage floor without realizing that perhaps your last trip of the year is already behind you. At some point, perhaps when you're looking for your snow shovel, you realize you need to pack up your gear. Unfortunately, at this point it is usually packed up rather haphazardly only to leave issues with paddling equipment to be discovered in the spring.
Determine to make this year different. If you plan ahead, and give yourself some time, you can properly inspect all of your kayaking gear before stowing it away in deference to your skiing and boarding equipment. Believe me, you'll avoid the frustration of trying to do your first paddling trip of 2013 only to find out that some critical article of equipment such as your PFD or spray skirt is damaged enough to put your good intentions on hold.
