With rental shops in parks and lakes and next to almost any puddle of water, kayaking has become accessible to just about anyone who wants to try it out. Also, given that big box sporting goods retailers stock kayaks of the recreational variety for only a couple hundred bucks, owning a kayak has become easier than ever.
So, while getting into paddling is easier than ever it still requires specialized instruction to do more advanced paddling such as sea kayaking, where safety, rescue, and navigational skills play the utmost importance. Don't allow this to deter you from picking up the sport though. There's plenty you can do to learn all about sea kayaking and begin to take the next step in kayaking from recreational paddling.
