While whitewater paddling has grown by leaps and bounds, most people don't get into this sport for the playboating. There's a few reasons for this. Of course, its intimidating. Beginner's are mainly focused on stay upright. Deliberately putting themselves in a situation that guarantees to flip them isn't usually first on a beginner's list. So, they focus on running the river and keeping their heads dry.
Probably the main reason, though, that people don't get into kayaking to playboat is that aspiring kayakers just don't know that playboating exists unless they live near a park-and-play. However, once on a river, its impossible to miss the other boaters surfing, squirting, and flying around in the air all deliberately. And, while it might the prospect of play boating might still be scary, it is an inevitable part of the whitewater kayaking progression that every boater goes through.
So, don't fight it! Learn all about kayak playboating and join the party!
