Well, next week is Memorial Day Weekend which for most people in the U.S. marks the beginning of summer. It is three, sometimes four, days of fun in the sun and usually involves water.
What we canoeists and kayakers must remember is that motor boaters have the same idea that we have for this weekend. We all want to be out on the water! With so many different types of boats out on the water at one time and under these circumstances, it can certainly make for a dangerous situation.
It is for this reason that I have been writing this series of blog posts. First, I discussed the proper choosing and wearing of pfds. Next I wrote about a concept crucial to kayaking and canoeing, that is to "See and Be Seen."
In this final installment with Memorial weekend but one week away, I'd like to remind everyone of the "Rules of the Road." It is crucial that all boaters know how to manuever and who has the right of way out on the water.
By the way, it wouldn' t hurt you sending this post to your motor boat and pwc friends out there. Afterall, I've never heard of a motor boater getting injured by a kayaker or canoeist out on the water. Its almost always the other way around...
