So, I took my son kayaking again this weekend. While a father and son kayaking together might not seem like a big deal, considering that my kid is only two and a half, it is definitely exciting to me. I've had him in the boat about three times at this point, usually just paddling around the shore of a lake. This time, I planned to actually take him out on a little trip.
So, I packed up the car and put my tandem kayak on the roof. The whole time he was so excited. Then we got to the launch site and after about 10 minutes of unloading and getting things ready just as we're about to cast off, he utters the words I'd been dreading.
Daddy, I want to go to the playground... Doh!
I guess, he spotted it from the kayak launch. At this point, like a crack negotiator, I reasoned with my two year old that we'd paddle for a while and then go to the playground.
Anyway, if you're like me and you can't wait to teach your kids to kayak, here's a piece I put together to help you do just that: Teaching a Child to Kayak.

I just landed on your paddling blog. Your articles are great especially this one. It’s very important to make sure your child has a great experience out on the water every time.
Outdoorplay Kayaks, the company I work for sells a bunch of specific kids gear essential for the safety of the child. We offer free shipping and no sales tax on those items to make it affordable to get on the water.
Thanks again for you wonderful articles!
