Tyler Bradt World Record- Tyler Bradt Kayaks over Palouse Falls

Saturday August 22, 2009

Is there no end to the size waterfall people can kayak over?   I remember when the 100 foot mark seemed elusive.  How can anyone kayak over a 100 foot waterfall and survive?  But they did.  Then when Tyler Bradt kayaked over the 107 foot Alexandria Falls in 2007 we thought that would stick for a while.

Then when, earlier this year, Pedro Olivia made it over the 127 foot Salto Olivia falls in Brazil, the kayaking world thought that had to be for a while.  I meant that's a 20 foot difference on a record that should increase by single digit feet.

Well, Tyler Bradt would not be beat, so what does he do?  Does he look for a 130 footer?  A 150 footer?  Nope.  Not Tyler.  Tyler Bradt scouts the Palouse Falls in Washington over a couple of weeks and decides to do it.  So what's the big deal you ask?  Palouse Falls measure in at about 197 feet high.  The day of the drop Tyler Bradt measured the falls at 186 feet.  But hey, whats a few feet, right?

Unbelieveable!  This is an amazing feat but also a scary one.  What's next, 200 feet?
