How Young is Too Young to Paddle?

Have you ever wondered how young is too young to teach kids to paddle?

I found myself facing this very dilemma as my kids have definitely cramped my paddling style. My thought is, that if I can get them into the kayak with me, I’ll get to go a whole lot more. So I decided to test it out on my 2 year old. Over my 18+ year kayaking career I’ve taught a variety of ages and athletic abilities to be able to captain their own vessel. But I had never had a customer this young.

Well, I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Of course my son can barely hold the paddle let alone propel the boat around. I mean come on, he can’t even steer his tricycle. But he did love being in the boat with me. He loved exploring the lake, the shoreline, the birds, and the fish. He especially loved looking into the water and splashing daddy along the way.

Now if I can only get him potty trained I'd be set...
